Lloyd-Jones on the purpose of theological education

ML-J speaking to London Bible College on how to gage the effectiveness of theological education:

Are the men more certain  of the truth at the end of their studies than at the beginning? Are they more steadfast? Do they know God better and desire to serve God better than when they came in? Ah, how many lose this! Have they a greater zeal for God? a greater love for the lost and perishing? What is the purpose of doctrine and knowledge if it is not to know God?…You may have more BD’s than any College in the country but only if the result is that your people know God better!

Martyn Lloyd-Jones quoted from Iain Murray’s Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Vol. 2: The Fight of Faith 1939-1981, p. 310-1
